The Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered between 1947 and 1956, include some of the oldest known biblical manuscripts.

Found in caves near Qumran close to the Dead Sea, the scrolls include portions of nearly every Old Testament book, with the Great Isaiah Scroll being one of the most complete and significant finds. They date to roughly the 3rd century BCE through the 1st century CE.

The Septuagint is an ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament.

It was produced beginning around the 3rd century BCE in Alexandria, Egypt, primarily for Greek-speaking Jewish communities. The Septuagint was widely used by early Christians and is frequently quoted in the New Testament.

This makes it by far the most translated book in human history. Full translations of the entire Bible exist in several hundred languages, with partial translations available in many more.

Ecclesiastes is a philosophical book traditionally attributed to Solomon, reflecting on the meaning of life.

It opens with the well-known phrase 'Vanity of vanities, all is vanity' (Ecclesiastes 1:2), exploring themes of purpose, mortality, and wisdom. The book ultimately concludes with an exhortation to fear God and keep his commandments (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

The Book of Job is considered one of the oldest books in the Bible in terms of setting, though its date of writing is debated.

It tells the story of a righteous man who suffers immense personal loss and questions the nature of suffering and God's justice. Job's story spans 42 chapters and is often cited as an early example of extended philosophical dialogue in literature.

The Book of Proverbs contains 31 chapters of wisdom sayings, largely attributed to Solomon.

Proverbs 31, the final chapter, includes a well-known passage describing the qualities of a virtuous, capable woman. The book as a whole emphasizes practical wisdom for everyday living.

The four Gospels present overlapping but distinct accounts of Jesus' life from different perspectives.

Matthew emphasizes Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, Mark presents a fast-paced narrative focused on action, Luke highlights compassion and inclusion of the marginalized, and John focuses more on Jesus' divine identity and theological teaching (John 20:31). Scholars refer to the shared material among Matthew, Mark, and Luke as the 'synoptic problem.'
